Prior to this I was a freelance designer. Of course I was a little concerned opening during that time frame, however I did very well considering the times my first year. My selections of style in the beginning was more old world mediterranean, this style was very popular at that time. My store is across from a large furniture retail store so I felt I would get traffic, which I did from my choice of location. Acquiring manufacturers takes time and money to open up with each of them. I wanted to sell only the best quality USA made furniture, which I have today.

My style since has changed since the beginning into more contemporary to transitional style, however I have done many traditional homes as well.  Design has always been my first love. My father was an artist from Italy, we use to paint together in his studio. I love to make spaces beautiful and comfortable for my clients. I feel I have a rare talent that I am able to understand in a short period of time what my clients style and needs are, along with giving them inspiration of products they may not have thought they would like, with of course creative intuitive design. 

Owning your own business — especially in the design world — is, in my opinion, the only true way to express creativity without limits. Of course, it comes with its challenges, but the rewards far outweigh the obstacles. One of the biggest hurdles in my business has always been logistics. I’ll never forget the first time a semi-truck full of furniture arrived at my store. The space was still empty, and I was in the middle of painting the walls when the driver walked in and said, “Is this the chick store? I’ve got a load for you.” They don’t assist with unloading, and I was the only one there to receive it. I scrambled to find help, but let’s just say my volunteer wasn’t thrilled.

Thankfully, things have come a long way since then. Today, I work with top-tier freight companies who call me directly, deliver with precision, and handle everything at my dock. What used to be one of the most stressful parts of the business has become a smooth, reliable process — but I’ll always remember those early days.
